VRYHEID KZN: Leave a legacy by donating blood this Heritage Month

This past weekend, 76 local blood donors donated their much-needed blood

September marks Heritage Month and the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) invites you to celebrate it in a way that everyone has in common, regardless of your background. What is that way? Blood, of course. The SANBS urges everyone to join the family of blood donors who are dedicated to giving the gift of life. “Blood donation is a great way to give someone else more time to enjoy more celebratory days and moments with their friends and family. We urge you to spare 30 minutes of your time to make a life-saving difference this Heritage Day,” said Dr Karin van den Berg (SANBS medical director).

This past weekend, 76 local blood donors donated their much-needed blood.

The SANBS will be in Vryheid on the following dates:

September 18 at PnP from 09:00 until 13:00;

September 25 at PnP from 09:00 until 13:00.

One unit of blood can save up to three lives and donating only takes 30 minutes, four times a year.

To become a blood donor, you must:

– Be between the ages of 16 and 75 years old;

– Weigh 50kg or more;

– Be in good health and lead a healthy lifestyle;

– Consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient;

– Commit to donating blood regularly.
