NEWCASTLE KZN: Water shortages leave township areas parched

Water tankers are being dispatched to the areas affected by water shortages.

Insufficient raw water supply has been blamed for continued water shortages in Madadeni and Osizweni today.

In a press statement earlier, the Newcastle Municipality’s Head of Communications, Mlungisi Khumalo cautioned residents about the shortages but said water tankers have been dispatched to affected areas.

“…Newcastle Municipality is aware of the continued water supply shortages in Madadeni and Osizweni. This is due to insufficient amounts of raw water supply from sources, resulting in limited production at the [treatment] facility.”

Khumalo has urged residents in affected areas to use water sparingly. He further stated that more information on the situation would be provided at a later stage.

Residents should also report any water-related issues to the municipal call centre on 086 014 4144.

“The Newcastle Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused.”
