NEWCASTLE KZN: ANC in the lead as vote tallies continue

Representatives of the IEC are still counting ballots and these numbers must still be audited.

The African National Congress has the edge in 10 municipal wards currently, as officials continue with vote counting from the 2021 Local Government Elections.

According to reporters on the ground, the currently ruling party is leading in wards including 1, 11, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24, 28, 29, and 30.

The Democratic Alliance currently leads five wards (2, 3, 4, 5, and 34) and the Inkatha Freedom Party is ahead in three wards (10 26, and 32). Newcomer to Newcastle politics, ActionSA is a step ahead in Ward 25.

Perhaps the biggest surprise however, is another new party, Team Sugar South Africa edging ahead in three wards (16, 19, and 31) ahead of candidates from contenders in the ANC, IFP, DA and other parties.

There are currently no results yet from voting stations in wards 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 22, 23, 27, or 33.

Representatives of the Independent Electoral Commission are still counting ballots and these numbers must still be audited – officials have also emphasised that these results are not final and ward candidates are still to be officially confirmed.
