Pamela Govender, a former Newcastillian now living in Australia, continues to share recipes passed down to her by her mother, the late Tilda Naidoo.

This week, Pamela reveals how to cook her mother’s delectable fried masala fish, which is sure to satisfy your taste buds:

Cooking Time – 30 minutes, Preparation Time – 10 minutes, Serves six people

Ingredients:

  • 1Kg of your choice of fish (Wash, pat dry and slice the fish).
  • 1 teaspoon powdered turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons. Kashmiri masala
  • 8 smashed garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard seed (crush with garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon whole jeera (crush with garlic)
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons lemon juice
  • cooking oil

Method: 

  • Make a paste out of all of the spices.
  • Fry the fish after marinating it.

Serve with dhall and rice or simple buttered toast.
