Newcastle-born author wins national award
The competition was open to all of South Africa's 11 official languages.
Newcastle-born author, Sandile Ngwenya (25) wins a national award.
Ngwenya won first prize in the 2021 Sanlam Prizes for Youth Literature Competition with his isiZulu novel, Imali Yezipoki.
This event was held on November 20, in the picturesque city of Cape Town.
“I entered a literary competition last year, the SANLAM prize for youth literature This was in partnership with Tafelberg publications, an imprint of NB publishers.”
The competition was open to all of South Africa’s 11 official languages.
It was divided into three categories:
English (two authors won gold and silver each).
Afrikaans (two authors won gold each).
African languages (two authors won gold each).
“My first isiZulu book, fortunately, received first place in the Gold Category. I also received R20 000 and the publication of my book as a result of this,” explained a chuffed Ngwenya.
