DUNDEE KZN: Water woes “dirty water” causes a stink
Residents don't have water during the day and when the taps start running, the water is usually brown.
Water cuts and water-shedding has become a serious matter of concern for people living in Endumeni. Residents don’t have water during the day and when the taps start running, the water is usually brown.
This has caused fear among the community, as residents are questioning whether it is safe for consumption by humans or even animals.
“We cannot drink such dirty water! The water issue is really becoming problematic. I mean, half the time we don’t have water and when we do, it’s dirty. We demand answers from Umzinyathi Municipality about this,” said Dundee resident Simpiwe Nyandeni. A frustrated Glencoe resident who did not want to be named said that: “This water is not safe to drink. One can’t help but wonder whether Umzinyathi Municipality knows what they’re doing in those offices. One minute there’s no water and the next, it’s dirty and brown, which I find disgusting. We cannot do anything with water like this; we can’t even give it to animals to drink. We are really suffering at the hands of the people we put in power.”
