Two people have allegedly died and multiple others were apparently injured after a shootout occurred outside Theku Plaza in Osizweni on January 27.
According to a source, unrest between Madadeni and Osizweni Taxi Associations flared up on January 26, resulting in the closure of certain roads.
“Police were summoned and the situation was defused.”
However, the unrest started up again on January 27, and allegedly turned violent.
“A shooting occurred shortly after 12:00 which ultimately left two people dead and multiple others injured as a result,” said the source.
At this stage, it cannot be confirmed who was involved in the shooting, and the incident will be subject to further investigation.
Imran Ghafoor of the Crime Fighters Task Team confirmed the incident, and said all emergency services are on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to practice caution while travelling.
