DUNDEE KZN: Teacher’s sexual assault case postponed until Friday

The bail application was postponed until Friday, March 4.

The Dundee High School teacher who is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old learner appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court again on Monday morning.
There was again a heavy police presence in the courtroom.
The road was barricaded as community members protested loudly outside the court building.

Defence Advocate Mr L Barnard asked Magistrate Mpungose if the bail application could be postponed, as the accused will be staying outside of the province (for safety reasons) should he be granted bail.

Magistrate Mpungose said that the State would need to first verify the accused’s address.
State prosecutor Mr I Zuma agreed that the investigating officer, Sergeant T Mthimkhulu, must verify the address of the accused.
Magistrate Mpungose then instructed that the accused must hand over his cellphone and passport to the investigating officer.
Adv Barnard also mentioned in court that the accused was badly injured when he was assaulted by a family member of the 14-year-old girl.
According to Adv Barnard, the accused suffered a skull fracture during the ordeal and that a hospital CT Scan proves that the accused needs more medical attention, which he has not yet received.
The bail application was postponed until Friday, March 4.
