Residents angry after going 15 days without water

The Al-Imdaad Foundation was seen out and about once again, ensuring that people had water

Residents in areas such as Aloe Park, Hillside and Chisty Place have gone more than 15 days without water.

Some areas received water yesterday (May 4) but this morning, taps were ‘dry’ once again.

Water & Sanitation Portfolio Committee chairperson Cllr MM Khoza said that, yesterday, they had a total of three operating pumps. As a result, most places started to receive water. “Unfortunately, two pumps then failed, leaving one to continue operating. This was a setback. As the municipality, we decided to buy three new pumps which are expected to be delivered soon.”

He further said that, as the municipality, they would have liked to buy more pumps. However, they can only afford to buy more after July, which is the beginning of the new financial year.

“We appeal to the community to bear with us in this tough time. Even though we only have one pump working, water is being supplied; it’s just that it is not enough. We are doing everything possible to restore full water supply as soon as possible,” said Khoza.
