Municipality to tackle Siyahlala-la housing woes
Municipal leadership said the illegal occupation of homes in the area had to end.
On July 3, Mayor of Newcastle, Xolani Dube, Deputy Mayor, Musa Sugela Thwala, Speaker of Council, Thengi Zulu and Acting Municipal Manager, Zamani Mcineka facilitated a meeting between residents of Siyahlala-la and H39 and the Municipal Department for Development Planning and Human Settlements.
According to the municipality’s Head of Communications, Mlungisi Khumalo, the meeting was called to address and find solutions to the community’s ongoing illegal housing occupation, which has been a source of contention for almost a decade.
Cllr Thwala stated that the illegal occupation and stealing of homes of people in need must end,” stated Khumalo.
Cllr Dube further detailed the municipality’s ‘bold plans and aggressive steps’ to address the ongoing issues in the area.
