First annual pageant of Miss and Mr Zululand hosted at Bhekuzulu

Lumka Mahlaba hosted the first annual Miss & Mr Zululand pageant on Saturday at King Zwelithini Hall in Bhekuzulu.
Mahlaba explained that the pageant was open to scholars from various high schools in the Zululand District. Learners from Pongola, Ulundi, Nongoma, Paulpietersburg and Vryheid took part in the event, with 18 girls and nine boys from the age of 13 to 19 as contestants.
She went on to say that she hosted this pageant as a way of giving back to the community so that high school learners could take part in extra activities and not just academics.
The contestants were judged on their smile, walk, eye contact and speeches. Mahlaba says they encountered one challenge, which was sponsors. ‘’The only challenge was trying to get sponsors, which was not successful. Hence I self-funded the whole event.’’
Sbahle and Siyethamba Mbatha were crowned Miss and Mr Zululand 2022. Lethokuhle Myeza was first princess, while Asphile Nxumalo was second princess. Aphelele Mbatha took the title of first runner-up for the boys, while Nhlalonhle Mtshali was second runner-up. Lerato Masiteng is Miss Zululand High School Ambassador.
Mahlaba concluded by saying that, ‘’This initiative is aimed at enhancing youth participation from the Zululand District and we hope that next year and the following years, it will be much bigger and better through support from the community.’’
She thanked the city of Umhlathuze 2022, Miss Nomcebo Shandu, Mr Siston Amuri, Siya Nzima-King Cetshwayo District Municipality Ambassador, ACR (AbaQulusi Community Radio Station) presenter Mzomuhle for being the MC of the day, and his mother as well as her brothers, whose support was beyond measure.
