Tavern killing in Stretch Crescent
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of the face
Tavern killings are becoming a disturbing trend in South Africa and hit close to home in Vryheid over the weekend. Who can forget the 21 young people who died in a tavern at the end of June? Then, in July, another 15 were gunned down in Soweto. 12 others were killed in a tavern in Pietermaritzburg on the same night. This past weekend, on Saturday evening, a man was murdered at a tavern in Stretch Crescent here in Vryheid. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of the face, as well as several other places on his body. The suspect entered the tavern where the victim was playing pool and opened fire with a 9mm pistol before fleeing the scene. The shooter was wearing a mask and a black hooded jacket that covered his head. Six 9mm cartridges were found at the scene. No arrests have been made as yet.
