Endumeni has been hit with load reduction enforced by Eskom due to the municipality’s mounting debt to the power utility.

Unofficial sources said that with load shedding already impacting on festive season activities, Endumeni could be without electricity for up to 18 hours in 24  hour schedule.

While there is as yet no official statement from the municipality, FC Bester of the Endumeni Residents Association told the Courier :

“I had a discussion with the Municipal Manager and can confirm that Endumeni Municipality is under loadreduction because arrears to Eskom.I have requested that a media release be forwarded to me explaining the situation and to inform the community of the times of Load Reduction and Loadsedding. As soon as I receive the information I will pass it on.”

The news has infuriated businesspeople and residents who already have their backs against the wall because of the economic downturn turn and wildly fluctuating load shedding schedules.

More details will be released when provided. Eskom has introduced load reduction in other municipalities.

It is understood Endumeni owes Eskom over R50 million.
