Policing in the Amajuba District has received a boost following the welcoming of 142 new police constables who have recently graduated from police academies in Kimberly, Tswane, and Chatsworth.
The graduates were welcomed by Amajuba District Commissioner Major General Freddie Alexander last Wednesday.
More than 180 police officers were deployed in the Newcastle CBD and Osizweni township to ensure the safety of the residents.
Only the drivers and their crews were in the vehicles with the ‘boots on the ground’ covering the ‘action zones’. Several lethal weapons were confiscated during this operation.
The operation concluded at Madadeni Police Station, where the new constables were assigned to their new Amajuba District police stations.
Major General addressed the new police officers, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of Amajuba District residents.

The issue of gangsterism remains a thorny issue in some other parts of the District, but Major General Alexander stated that with the new measures in place, he hoped that this ‘will soon be a thing of the past’.
The District has also made significant progress in apprehending suspects for stock theft, and all 11 stations in the sistrict will launch awareness campaigns to ensure that all stock is properly brand-marked.
