Pedestrian killed in Allen Street collision

The patient was pronounced dead at the scene.

A pedestrian has died following a collision between a light motor vehicle and a taxi at the corners of Allen and Paterson Streets on Thursday afternoon (February 2).

According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren of Magenta Medical Services, when emergency services arrived on the scene, they discovered that when the two vehicles collided, a pedestrian was hit and sadly sustained fatal injuries.

“She was pronounced dead at the scene. A second female occupant of one of the vehicles was taken to the hospital for additional medical attention “He stated.

According to a witness on the scene, the deceased had arrived in Newcastle to arrange the funeral of a relative when the accident occurred.

It’s still unclear exactly what transpired and the exact cause of the collision will remain subject to further police investigation.
