Emadlangeni Municipality lends a helping hand to local informal traders
In an inspiring move, the Emadlangeni Municipality, in partnership with the Small Business Development Agency (SEDA), presented R75 000 to local informal traders in the Utrecht area.
A total of 16 local informal traders received the cash donations.
The goal of the programme was to give a hand to those whose businesses suffered damage in the April 2022 flooding.
The flooding, described as the worst to ever occur in KwaZulu-Natal, wreaked economic and personal havoc in the province.
An elated Gogo Dube, whose shop was wrecked in the disaster, could not contain her joy when she received her R5 000.
She expressed her gratitude to SEDA for helping local informal traders as they prepare to rebuild their businesses.
Mayor, Cllr. M.L. Buthelezi, congratulated the informal traders who received vouchers and gave advice on how the traders should use these to revive their businesses.
He said that the government has numerous initiatives focused at developing and assisting small enterprises and encouraged them to also inspire others to start their own businesses.
