AfriForum neighbourhood watches participate in national patrols
The patrol included 1489 patrollers who traveled 26,326 kilometers in 767 vehicles.
The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in KwaZulu-Natal, North-West, and the Free State engaged in AfriForum’s nationwide patrol in partnership with the SAPS, local CPF, community members, and various security businesses.
This patrol took place on April 14 from 4pm to 6am. Nationwide, the patrol included 1489 patrollers who travelled 26,326 kilometres in 767 vehicles. The patrollers dealt with 24 incidents.
Newcastle members patrolled from 20:00 to 01:00 with 19 patrollers and 10 vehicles, covering a distance of 218 kilometers. While on patrol, stolen goods were discovered.
“The AfriForum neighbourhood watches will continue to work on projects and patrols in collaboration with the SAPS and other safety stakeholders to reduce crime and promote safety. It is critical that communities and organisations work together to combat crime. Increased visibility in neighbourhoods and cities plays an important role in community safety, so patrols like this are essential,” says Joseph Renaud, AfriForum’s Safety Specialist for the central region.
He added that AfriForum thanked every neighbourhood watch member and other role players who took part for volunteering their time, even on a Friday, to keep their communities safe.
