Multiple fatalities reported in R34 Utrecht Road collision

Three people died and several others have been injured after two vehicles collided on the R34 between Utrecht and Newcastle earlier this morning (May 13).

According to Chantell Botha of KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services, all emergency services responded to the scene near the Uitkoms Mine entrance.

“Upon arrival four people were treated for critical injuries (red code) and were transported to hospital for further medical care.” She said.

Unfortunately, three other patients succumbed to their injuries.

The exact cause of the collision is still unclear at this stage and will remain subject to further police investigations.

All emergency services are currently busy attending and clearing the scene, and motorists are being advised to practice extreme caution if traveling that route.
