Mayor visits the bereaved Madonsela family
Amajuba District Mayor, Umntwana Ndabuko Zulu, visited the bereaved Madonsela family in Dannhauser, whose home was destroyed by fire last Wednesday.
A 62-year-old grandmother and her one-year-old grandson were killed in a fire caused by an exploding gas heater.
In his address, the Mayor expressed his condolences and sorrow for the incident, and promised to assist the family during their time of bereavement.
“When the municipality learned of the tragedy, we decided to come to its aid. We did not arrive empty-handed, but we did bring something to demonstrate our sympathy for what the family is going through. We want to demonstrate that, as a municipality, we are here to help.”
The Mayor emphasised the importance of being extra cautious when using winter warmers like heaters.
This incident occurred as the municipality was rounding off its fire awareness campaign where they issued warnings and guidelines that people can follow to avoid disasters like this.
The deceased were laid to rest in a joint funeral this past Saturday.
