Utrecht family pleads for assistance to bring back body of deceased daughter
A Utrecht family is pleading for help in repatriating the body of their daughter who passed away at an overseas airport on July 10.
Lindiwe Myeni is grieving the death of her daughter, who left South Africa to go and study medicine abroad at the Cebu Hospital in the Philippines.
Snegugu Myeni was doing her final year and was set to graduate as a neurosurgeon in August, but died while waiting at a Singapore airport returning home for a visit.
Lindiwe can be seen in a video pleading with the community for help because the family cannot afford the money needed to bring home Snegugu’s remains. “I approached the South African embassy in the Philippines, who informed me that bringing her home would cost about 2 million, cremating her would cost more than 70 thousand of their currency, or I could bury her overseas.”
Watch as Myeni’s mother appeals for assistance to retrieve her daughters body from the Philippines:
She then approached Icebolethu funeral services for assistance,
“Icebolethui said they can assist because they have an aeroplane that transports deceased persons from abroad. It will cost R216 000, so I am trying to raise that amount as soon as possible because it costs R1695 per day where her body is being kept.”
Lindiwe is still grieving her precious daughter, who had so much to live for, on top of having to deal with the finances and logistics. “Snegugu had told me that she would be returning home after graduation so she will be able to work and heal South Africans.”
“It hurts, it hurts but as a family we have faith in Mzansi we’ve seen what you can do, thank you” she concluded.
For any assistance, kindly contact her mother on 071 4286354 or whatsapp 0733992120
The Newcastle Advertiser extends its heartfelt condolences to the Myeni family on their loss.
