Sting operation leads to successful arrest following brutal murder
A man was arrested during a swiftly launched sting operation following the brutal stabbing to the death of a man and the wounding of another in the Riverside industrial area in the early hours of Saturday, November 2.
Imraan Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters task team said the alarm was raised at around 3 am.
When members of the Newcastle SAPS and others arrived on the scene they found that two men had suffered multiple stab wounds.
One man had already succumbed to his injuries while the other was in a critical condition.
“The Newcastle SAPS Crime Prevention C Shift, together with members of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), immediately launched an investigation to track down the suspect, ” Gafoor said.
By late Sunday afternoon, Ghafoor said critical information had been gathered to identify the suspect and his whereabouts.
The team responded swiftly and once he was arrested, the suspect quickly admitted to his role in the crime, which also led law enforcement to the disposal site of the murder weapon used in the attack.
Officers also discovered the suspect’s blood-stained clothes, believed to have been worn at the time of the attack.
Forensic officers were called to the scene to gather further evidence.
Police investigations continue.
