Rapist sentenced to five years for rape of 14-year-old girl

A man was jailed for five years when he was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl, he had accosted while she was walking with friends to a tuckshop in June 2022.

The man shouted at the teen, ordering her to follow him. Scared, the friends who had accompanied her, fled.

He then forced the girl into an isolated field and raped her.

A police investigation followed and the man was arrested and following a lengthy trial, jailed.

The Commander of the Family Violence (FCS) Unit, Lt. Colonel SL Chapi, commended the Investigating Officer, Constable Jele, for his tireless efforts towards ensuring the conviction was achieved.

“This is evidence of the zeal of our officers to see victims of such brutality receive justice. The extent of dedication shown by Constable Jele led the accused to justice,” concluded Lt. Colonel Chapi.
