Armed suspects target businesses on Marconi Drive

Staff at a factory shop in Newcastle were held at gunpoint this morning as suspects made off with cash and phones.

Staff at a local factory shop on Marconi Drive were left shaken after being robbed at gunpoint early this morning (Wednesday, May 21).

According to Mornè Potgieter of Ithemba Security, the suspects entered the factory premises at approximately 07:30.

They threatened employees at gunpoint before making off with a firearm that belongs to a staff member, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle.

Potgieter confirmed that all emergency services are currently on the lookout for the suspects, who have successfully evaded arrest.
