Police investigate multiple crimes including arrest, theft by deception

A suspect was arrested in Osizweni while police probe social media scam theft in Madadeni and armed robbery on the N11.

Police are probing several cases in Osizweni, including a 30-year-old suspect arrested on May 24 for the possession of presumed stolen property.

Other investigations include a theft tied to a bogus social media job offer and a robbery on the N11.

A 30-year-old suspect was arrested on May 24 in Osizweni for possession of presumably stolen property.

Officers responded to a tip-off and found the man with a wheelbarrow.

When questioned, he failed to provide a valid explanation for how he acquired it.

In a separate case, SAPS are investigating a theft reported on May 23 in Section 6, Madadeni.

A woman was promised a job by a man she met on social media who invited her to meet him at a lodge.

There, he asked to use her cell phone to draft a CV. He then left with the phone and did not return.

Meanwhile, Newcastle detectives are investigating a case of common robbery that occurred on 24 May 2025 at approximately 14:00 on the N11 road near the NPA.

The complainant alleged that another vehicle forced him off the road, after which two unidentified men approached, took cash and a mobile phone from his bag, and fled the scene.
