Local traffic officers have installed speed cameras in high-risk zones to monitor reckless drivers and improve road safety in Newcastle. Read more here:

The Newcastle Municipality’s Traffic Department has officially activated its speed trap cameras in a bid to enhance road safety and clamp down on speeding.

According to the municipality’s communications department, these cameras are already operational in ‘high-risk areas’ to monitor reckless driving around the clock.

“Motorists caught exceeding the speed limit will be issued with fines,” read the statement.

Newcastle Mayor, Councillor Xolani Dube, expressed full support for the initiative, describing it as a vital step towards protecting lives and restoring discipline on the roads.

“This initiative is not about punishing drivers, it’s about making Newcastle’s roads safer for everyone,” concluded Cllr Dube.
