Striking mine workers block Dundee/Greytown road

Motorists are urged to avoid the area

Striking Buffalo Coal mine workers this morning blocked the Dundee/Greytown road at the entrance to the Coalfields Washing Plant with burning tyres.

There were also reports of stones being thrown at passing cars.

Police and traffic offices are watching from a distance and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Buffalo Coal staff said since the new owners took over the mine in October they have not been paid what they should be receiving. They said the owners have not spoken to them and that they will continue their protest action until the matter is resolved.

Mine management is yet to respond.
