Swift community response results in arrest of ‘serial burglar’
The suspect is believed to be behind numerous crimes in the area including the assault of an elderly woman earlier this year

A combined community effort this morning brought to book a burglar who is thought to be behind a string of break-ins.
Chris Keulder on Lloyd Street said he left this morning for business in Glencoe and fifteens later, received a call from a tenant on his property that a man had broken into the house.
Realizing he had been seen, the thief used one of Chris’s spanners to break open burglar bars to get out of the house. He had with him Chris’s air gun and various other possessions.
“An alert was sent out via the community Whats App group and what a magnificent response,” said a thankful Chris.
He said cars ‘from all over descended on to the scene and chase ensured. The man climbed over a fence into the caravan park and then through to the golf course where the man was apprehended.
The Dundee SAPS arrested the man. He was found with the air gun and other items from Chris’s home.
The suspect is believed to have been in several burglaries in the area and the assault of an elderly woman earlier this year.
“I would like to thank the security group members and the community for their prompt response. I least we know people out there do care. Special thanks to the Dundee SAPS for the swift reaction,” Chris told the Courier.
