Protest action brings Dannhauser town to a standstill

The Mayor was said to be stuck in his car

Protesters have brought Dannhauser  to a stand still today with burning tyres blocking the entrances to the town.

All entrances have been closed by the protesters who say they are fed up with the continuous water cuts that have been affecting residents for months.

Yesterday, protesters closed the Newcastle road near Koppie Alleen outside the town with burning tyres and rocks but left the area after meeting with Mayor Kunene, who promised to take up the issue with the District Municipality, after accepting a memorandum from the protest leaders.

However, the demonstrations continued this morning in Dannhauser town with witnesses in the town reporting that the Mayor appeared to be stuck in his car on the bridge leading to the town.

Police are monitoring the situation but residents said they appeared to be outnumbered.
