94-year-old Dundee golfing legend still going strong
Geoff Johnson says a good walk out on the golf course is the best exercise he can recommend.
Now 94 years old, Dundee Country Club legend Geoff Johnson still enjoys a round of golf with his son, Peter, and good friends.
The retired farmer and businessman was in Dundee on Saturday to enjoy 18 holes at the club, which he joined in 1951 and is now an honorary member.
Now living in Howick, Geoff has fond memories of first playing golf as a 21-year-old with good friend Tom Worthington.
He attended Dundee Junior Primary School and matriculated at Maritzburg College in Pietermaritzburg before running the Malonjeni Trading Store in the Nquthu area for many years. He later sold the business.
“I still love nothing more than golf with my son and good friends. I previously travelled around the country to play golf with friends, many of whom are now late. Golf keeps the body and mind fit, which is very important.”
