Donations welcome after man suffers burns and families lose everything to veld fires in Wasbank district
Disaster Management assisted the Ntsele and Ntuli families with blankets, foam mattresses, pots, gel stoves, gel, cutlery, dishes, plates, cups, plastic buckets and basins.
A man suffered burn wounds while trying to stop a veld fire from sweeping through his family’s homestead in the Thelapi area, Wasbank, about two weeks ago.
Sibusiso Ntuli is presently in hospital undergoing treatment for burns to his arms, hands, upper body and face.
Ward Councillor Saleem Abdool said the Municipal Disaster Team had reacted on the day of the blaze and five structures belonging to the Ntsele family had burnt down in a veld fire.
“A rondavel owned by the Ntuli family, located on the edge of their property, was also damaged in the blaze. I understand from the Disaster Management Team that Sibusiso was tragically burned while he was out attending to another veld fire in the area. He was immediately taken to Dundee Hospital and treated. We wish him a full recovery,” Cllr Abdool said.
“Their details were also entered into the database that goes to the district, then the province with recommendations.”
Meanwhile, the Ntuli family has been appealing to the community to assist them with clothing, blankets, and food donations since they lost all their belongings to the fire. For more information on how to help the family with donations, you can contact Mr Masina on 060 819 7789.
