Businesses applying for garage plates for vehicles warned of new requirements

Businesses who trade in new or used vehicles are urged to make themselves familiar with the new set of forms required.

Businesses that use trade license plates, known as ‘garage plates‘, which are used to allow customers to test drive vehicles on public roads, are urged to be aware of the new list of requirements when applying for the new format of these plates.

According to the KZN Licensing Authority:

The new list includes:

  • a MTN form, Motoring Trade Number,
  • proxy letter on a letterhead,
  • certified proxy ID copies,
  • a certified copy of the business register certificate or traffic register certificate,
  • certified copy of CK docs if applicable, SAPS 601 (a) (Application for the registration as a second-hand goods dealer/recycler),
  • a letter stating that the company trades in new and/or second-hand vehicles, a certified SARS tax clearance certificate and proof of residence where the company is located.
