Disabled Nquthu woman makes history as a finalist at Miss Inspire South Africa pageant
Sinethemba Zondi has shown resilience in overcoming her struggles as she inspires others.
A 30-year-old disabled woman from Nquthu, Sinethemba Zondi, is set to make history as she competes in the Miss Inspire South Africa pageant.
The pageant will take place on March 29.
Zondi, who uses a wheelchair to get around, is the first person from Nquthu to reach this stage, marking a significant milestone for both her and the local community.
Her journey into the world of modelling began last year when she participated in the fashion show segment of the Zero DB Lounge event. It was there that she discovered her passion for fashion and modelling, sparking a desire to pursue further opportunities in the field.
“Since then, my love for modelling has grown and today I’m proud to be a finalist for Miss Inspire Mzansi South Africa,” she said.
Zondi began using a wheelchair at the age of 15 after being diagnosed with TB, which affected her spinal cord and left her unable to walk or stand on her own.
Doctors told her that due to the water retention in her spine, she would need to rely on a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Despite this challenge, her love for fashion remained strong and last year she found inspiration during a local fashion show that taught her that her wheelchair did not define her dreams.
“The show made me realise I can achieve anything while using a wheelchair,” Zondi enthused. “It gave me the confidence to pursue modelling and believe in my dreams.”
As she prepares to compete on the national stage, Zondi sees this as just the beginning of her journey. “I believe this is the start of my dream to become a successful and prominent wheelchair model in South Africa,” she said.
Her determination and success serve as an inspiration to others, proving that disability does not limit one’s ability to achieve greatness. On March 29, she will take the stage for the first time at the Miss Inspire South Africa event, where she hopes to inspire others and make her mark in the modelling industry.
