A coordinated, rapid response from SAPS and private security teams led to the arrest of five suspects following an armed robbery at the Exact store on Victoria Street in Dundee’s CBD on Saturday.
The drama unfolded when seven armed suspects, travelling in a white Suzuki Ertiga stormed the shop and fled the scene with cellular devices, clothing, and cash.
“Responding to the call out, Ithemba Security, E2 OCC, Zultrack, SAPS Dundee Station & OCC, CI, and the Umzinyathi Task Team—along with the K9 units from Glencoe and Ladysmith— two suspects, both aged 30, were traced down and arrested in the Uitval area of Ekuvukeni. Authorities also recovered stolen cellphones and clothing,” said Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson, Cst Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
Further intelligence revealed that the getaway vehicle was headed towards Pietermaritzburg. Responding quickly, members of the SAPS PMB K9 Unit, Flying Squad, Balid, Magma, and Fidelity Security intercepted the vehicle. Three other suspects were apprehended during this operation.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to locate and arrest the two outstanding suspects who managed to evade capture.
All recovered exhibits have been processed and booked into SAPS Dundee and Mountain Rise SAP13 registers as evidence.
