No bail demand for Dundee man accused of assaulting three-year-old girl

Community members and organisations gathered outside the Dundee Court on Beacsonfield Street to demand justice.

A case involving the severe assault of a three-year-old girl was opened at Dundee SAPS over the weekend after a concerned community member at Sbongile Hostel reported the incident.

The matter was brought to the attention of the Department of Social Development’s Endumeni Service Office in Dundee. The suspect was swiftly apprehended the same day by police.

The alleged perpetrator appeared in the Dundee Magistrates’ Court this week and was remanded in custody for a formal bail hearing. Outside the court, picketers — including representatives from Social Development, Siphuthando NPO, Christeleke Maatskaplike Dienste, and the Government Communication and Information System — gathered to demand that bail be denied.

Thanda Zulu of the Government Information Services in the Umzinyathi District said Social Development was thankful to the community for coming forward and urged the public to continue reporting any form of abuse.
