Vehicle crashes, veers into house on R33 near Pomeroy

Emergency crews use jaws of life after vehicle veers off the R33.

The jaws of life had to be used early this morning (Monday) to free a person trapped in a vehicle that careened off the R33 towards Pomeroy in the Sithole Farm area and veered into a house.

Witnesses reported that the car first struck a tree before slamming into the structure. Emergency services worked to stabilise the scene, while Ds Towing assisted in the recovery.

Witnesses said the driver appeared to hit the first of several speed bumps along the route and lost control. Wet road conditions may have exacerbated her loss of control.

Motorists who stopped to assist noted there are no warning signs for the speed bumps, and the markings have faded, creating a hazard for unsuspecting drivers.
