Nquthu man jailed for 20 years for rape and assault

Keletso Ntuli, 34, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a 59-year-old woman and assaulting her and her daughter.

A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for raping a 59-year-old woman and assaulting her and her daughter in Mkhonjana.

The Nquthu Regional Court sentenced Keletso Ntuli following his conviction for rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and assaulting the woman’s 18-year-old daughter.

The incident occurred in November 2025 in the Mkhonjana area, under the Nquthu policing precinct.

Knife attack led to rape conviction

SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana, said the investigation revealed that Ntuli unlawfully entered the women’s home and threatened them with a knife. When the daughter attempted to flee, he chased and stabbed her.

The mother tried to intervene and help her daughter, but Ntuli overpowered both women, stabbed the mother and raped her.

The case was investigated by Detective Constable Luthando Sithole of the Dundee Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

Ntuli was arrested, and his bail application was successfully opposed. Following the presentation of evidence gathered during the investigation, he was found guilty on all charges on October 13, 2026.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered that Ntuli’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Umzinyathi District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert commended Sithole for the thorough investigation that helped secure the conviction saying that this kind of commitment ensured that perpetrators of gender-based violence and other violent crimes are brought before the courts to face the consequences of their actions.
