Residents of Cerise Street were left in a state of disbelief at around 21:00, last night, as they watched a neighbour’s house burn to the ground.
The Newcastle Fire Brigade was reportedly sent to the scene to assist in putting out the fire, but it was already too late since most of the structure had suffered irreparable damage.

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be identified, an official police source revealed that there was speculation that it may have been ignited on purpose.
“Fortunately, no one was injured during the fire,” he clarified.
Investigators will return to the residence again today to determine the origin of the fire and to clarify whether it was started intentionally or accidentally.
