Stolen goods recovered in Chievely

A variety of suspected stolen items were found inside the premises

A tip-off regarding alleged theft from trains and trading in stolen goods resulted in success for police.

During the early hours of the morning on November 22, the Uthukela District Crime Intelligence Unit and Uthukela Tactical Response Team were conducting an operation in Colenso.

They got a tip-off and followed up on it.

“Officers received valuable information regarding a suspect that was dealing in stolen goods. The goods were allegedly being stolen from trains and later sold in Johannesburg. Information led them to Chievely where they identified a premises in which the suspects as well as the stolen goods were being kept,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

However, when police got to the premises, it was abandoned.

The packs of lunch box bags, which are allegedly stolen off trains and sold in Johannesburg.

During a search, police recovered lunch box bags, bags of suspender belts, boxes of perfumes and packs of dish cloths.

“The recovered items are in safe keeping. Investigations continue,” added Khan.
