Mr Mayaba, who was a delivery driver, was shot dead on July 4, 2019 after an argument with Lastborn Phillip Ndaba who produced a revolver and shot Mayaba three times.

Even though the killer handed himself over to police after the shooting, collecting evidence for a trial proved difficult for investigating officer Warrant Officer Mlotshwa from the Estcourt Detectives.

“It was a difficult investigation because no one was willing to come forward and give witness statements,” said Mlotshwa.

The investigator turned his attention to video footage as evidence.

The accused made several appearances in the Estcourt Regional Court until the case was finalised on December 6.

Ndaba was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment on the charge of murder. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. Warrant Officer Mlotshwa welcomed the sentence.
