Video shows police officer protecting himself against mob, say SAPS

An internal investigation is being conducted by the SAPS

A video is doing the rounds on social media, showing a police officer seemingly brandishing a firearm in public. 

The video’s headline is ‘Police abusing power in Ladysmith’. 

The incident reportedly happened in Ezakheni B-Section. Police officers were on the trail of a suspected drug dealer when they were obstructed by the suspect that appears in the video clip.

According to media relations provincial commander Colonel NRM Netshiunda, the suspect was arrested for obstructing police during the execution of their duties.

“The police officer looks to be protecting himself against mob attack. However, an internal investigation will provide clarity,” added Netshiunda.

Police are conducting an investigation into the video.
