‘Predator’ jailed for life for rape of girl (12)
In her statement, the girl said that she is unable to sleep at night because she constantly thinks about the incident. She said that she would never trust a male person again, as the man had ruined her life.
A man who preyed on a 12-young-girl and raped her has been jailed for life by the Madadeni Regional Court.
The court heard how in 2018, the man (41), who was not named, would often approach the girl while was out walking in the Osizweni area where she lived with a woman whom she referred to as her mother.
She would report all the encounters with the man to her ‘mother’. On the day of the incident, in April 2018, while walking back from school, the man again approached but this time pulled her into a vacant property and raped her.
The girl wrote down everything what had happened to her in the form of a letter to her mother.
The man was arrested after he was positively identified at an identity parade. The girl was taken to the Madadeni Thuthuzela Care Centre, where she received medical and psycho-social assistance.
Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, NPA regional spokesperson, said the testimonies of the girl, her ‘mother’, the doctor who did the medical examination, and the police official who conducted the identity parade, were all lead by regional court prosecutor, Dan Motha.
Motha also handed in a victim impact statement compiled by the girl and facilitated by court preparation officer, Masandi Mdiya.
In her statement, the girl said that she is unable to sleep at night because she constantly thinks about the incident. She said that she would never trust a male person again as the man had ruined her life. The court declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ruled that he was unsuitable to work with children.
“The NPA welcomes this successful prosecution. We commend the work done by both the prosecution and the investigation team,” Ramkisson-Kara said.
