Local law enforcement apprehend CBD house burglar

The suspect was caught shortly afterwards and officials managed to recovered around R85 000 in stolen valuables.

A house burglar was swiftly brought to justice after he targeted a family home in the central business district.

Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team said the suspect forced his way into the house and demanded cash and belongings before fleeing.

“All law enforcement role players attended the family’s call for help and quickly gathered enough information to conduct an intelligence-driven operation in search of the suspect,” he said.

Members of the Newcastle K9 Unit’s Sergeant Nkabinde, Sergeant Nxumalo and Sergeant Ngcobo, Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team’s Imraan Ghafoor, Optimus Protection Service Tracing and Tactical Teams were all involved in the operation.

The suspect was traced, and around R85 000 in valuables recovered.

The man was charged with house robbery as well as possession of stolen goods.

“Well done to all involved and for the excellent teamwork,” concluded Ghafoor.
