Over 10,000 suspects arrested in September

Police operations netted suspects connected to cases ranging from murder to rape and kidnapping

Intensified ‘targeted operations’ as well as the high-density ‘Operation Shanela’ resulted in a whopping 10,342 suspects being arrested for various crimes across KZN in the month of September.

According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, 3105 suspects were arrested for contact crimes. 191 of these were nabbed in connection with murder cases. 135 suspects were put behind bars for attempted murder, and a further 246 for suspected involvement in rape.

208 people were cornered and arrested in connection with cases of robbery, including house robberies, business robberies, carjackings, as well as robberies with aggravating circumstances.

Relentless efforts by police also resulted in the recovery of 286 firearms, 21 of which were rifles. 4761 rounds of ammunition were also confiscated.

Rural safety was also prioritized and 24 suspects were arrested in connection with stock theft.

Regarding crimes committed against women and children, police arrested 194 people for contravention of the Domestic Violence Act.

1727 suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes, while 54 were nabbed in connection with kidnapping.
