KZN a hot-spot for murders, says police minister

Is the province fast becoming the murder capital of the country?

National Minister of Police Bheki Cele on Friday (February 16) announced disturbing crime statistics that show an increase in terms of the number of people being killed in the country.

In a crime statistics media briefing, Cele said that 7710 people were killed last year between October and December, saying this is a 2.1% increase compared to the last report.

In the top 10 for the highest number of murders are KwaZulu-Natal policing districts that include Inanda, KwaMashu and uMlazi. Other ‘murder hot-spot’ areas in other provinces include eMfuleni, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Khayelitsha, Harare and Delft.
