Police watchdog IPID arrests two Estcourt officers for murder

The circumstances that led to the man being killed are unknown at this stage

An investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) led to the arrest of two Estcourt police officers on Tuesday (March 19).

The officers are suspects in connection with the death of a 29-year-old man from Amangwe. According to IPID, the officers picked up the man in Estcourt and tortured him. The victim was later found dead.

The two policemen who are linked to this murder are allegedly from Emabhalonini and Wembezi Township outside Estcourt.

A statement by IPID read, “Investigators proceeded to the crime scene and conducted investigations, which resulted in the identification of the police officers allegedly involved in the murder.”

The arrested officers are expected to appear in court soon.
