Officers from the Ladysmith Family Violence, Sexual Offences & Child Protection Unit recovered an R4 rifle and four rounds of ammunition in the Colenso area recently. 

Police were hot on the heels of a man wanted in connection with a rape case. Although the suspect narrowly evaded capture, he abandoned the firearm in the process.

The recovered rifle has been sent for ballistic testing to see if it can be linked to other crimes in the country.

The search for the suspect continues and the SAPS are urging anyone with information to come forward.
