Senior Eskom manager shot dead in Murchison Street

It is believed he was shot in the head, at close range.

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 13) when a man believed to be a senior manager at Eskom was shot dead in the Ladysmith CBD.

The victim was sitting in a parked car near a nightclub in Murchison Street. 

Initial reports indicate that he was shot in the head more than once, at close range, while seated in the car.

The scene was cordoned off by police, sparking curiosity among onlookers.

The victim has been identified as Phahla Nthlane, believed to be in his 30s. He was a senior environmental manager at Eskom’s Ingula power station.

The shooting has left Ladysmith in shock, with work colleagues expressing horror and outrage.

CCTV footage from a business close to the club shows that the incident took place a little after 03:30.

With many questions being asked about the shooting and the general safety of residents in town, we reached out to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, who was unable to comment.
