A 38-year-old Madadeni father has been handed a life sentence for repeatedly raping his biological son between 2019 and 2021.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), said the abuse occurred on several occasions when the boy’s mother was not at home.

“The abuse continued even after the mother and children moved away to live with family, as the father would still visit them,” she said.

An investigation was launched after the boy’s teacher noticed changes in his behaviour and asked him what was wrong.

The boy revealed that his father had been raping him, and the teacher immediately informed the school principal and his family.

He was taken to a clinic, where a doctor confirmed injuries consistent with sexual assault. The matter was reported to the police, and the father was arrested.

During the trial, Prosecutor Cindy Alberts presented the evidence of the teacher who first reported the abuse and the doctor who examined the child.

“The doctor testified that the injuries would have lifelong effects. In addition, the boy’s aunt told the court that he had become withdrawn, unhappy, and fearful since the incidents,” said Ramkisson-Kara.

The court sentenced the father to life imprisonment and ordered that his name be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders. He was also declared unfit to work with children or to possess a firearm.
