Newcastle SAPS, together with several other law enforcement units, have apprehended a man linked to stock theft in the Perdekop area.

Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), said information was received about a vehicle allegedly involved in stock theft.

“After being informed about the vehicle suspected in the Perdekop stock theft, off-duty Constable S. Ghafoor spotted it along the N11 and discreetly followed it while requesting backup,” said Imran.

The operational team included the Newcastle Highway Patrol, Newcastle Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), Newcastle Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), off-duty police officers, the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), and Newcastle AfriForum.

The vehicle was stopped and taken to Newcastle VCIU for further investigation, where it was confirmed as stolen under a Jeppe (Johannesburg) CAS number.

The suspect, believed to be the driver of the stolen vehicle, was arrested and detained for possession of a stolen vehicle. Police believe the vehicle may also be linked to other stock theft cases.
