Residents urged to cooperate with municipal accounts debt campaign
The Newcastle Municipality has published a notification advising homeowners that a campaign is to be launched to assist residents with their municipal accounts.
Officials will be visiting various residences in Newcastle where the owner, who was responsible for paying the municipal account, is deceased in order to assist these households with their outstanding debt.
“Residents are encouraged to welcome and open their homes to municipal workers, as well as to provide them with the information they require,” the municipality said.
However, it was noted with that there are members of the community ‘who are manhandling municipal employees sent to assist households with their municipal debt.’
Field workers sent to assist residents with their accounts can be identified by a plain navy t-shirt with the Newcastle municipality logo on it and a nametag bearing the municipal logo and the worker’s name and surname.
“The municipality has individually identified all of the households that will be visited, and fieldworkers have individual packs belonging to the households to which they have been assigned.
In conclusion, the municipality has one clear message, ‘help us help you.’”
